This is an example of a boulle work box from about 1850, decorated with tortoiseshell and brass inlay. Over the years the wood has shrunk and the glue failed. I reassembled the woodwork, reattached the boulle work using traditional animal glue and replaced the missing veneers. I refinished with traditional shellac and wax, maintaining the original patination where possible.
